Synopsis

After a horrible accident claims the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever Bloom can see people’s auras, hear their thoughts, and know someone’s entire life story by touching them. Going out of her way to avoid human contact to suppress her abilities, she has been branded a freak at her new high school — but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste.
Damen is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy. He’s the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her head – wielding a magic so intense, it’s as though he can peer straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she’s left with more questions than answers. And she has no idea just who he really is – or what he is. The only thing she knows to be true is that she’s falling deeply and helplessly in love with him.

Okay. I picked this book up at the library because I liked the cover. Really, you should know by now that I love pretty covers. This cover was pretty and therefore I checked the book out.

So this book has an okay premise. I like the psychic, aura reading, thought hearing girl. That sounds great. It is kind of cool that she can chat with her dead little sister and all that. But then it just gets wierd.

First, there are the names. No one I know would name their child Ever, especially if their last name was Bloom. Other characters have the names Haven and Honor. Those are little more acceptable, almost. But, Ever Bloom? Really?

Second, this book read way too much like Twilight. There is the girl who ends up in a new place though no choice of her own. She doesn’t want to be there and mopes. It is the pretty girl hiding in dark clothes unaware of her own beauty. Then along comes gorgeous mind-reading guy that people hardly know anything about. He is creeping on girl, even showing up at night in her room once while she is sleeping. However, she feels better around him. When he isn’t there, she’s always thinking of him.

Third, it was totally and completely insta-love. The instant Ever sees Damen, time stops and she is trapped in his eyes. Umm… no.

Fourth, I couldn’t care about Ever at all. She is whiny, self-centered and pretty dumb a lot of the time. Sure, your family died in a car crash and you died but didn’t die. That’s a lot to take in but that does not give you any reason to think that the world revolves around you. And alcohol isn’t going to solve any of your problems.

Fifth, Damen sounds like a vampire. He has mind-reading capabilities. He basically lives forever. He drinks some red stuff in a glass. He moves so fast he blurs. Ever can’t read his thoughts or see his aura. But he isn’t a vampire apparently.

I won’t even get into Drina. That might be a bit much with spoilers and all. But, seriously, I don’t think she’s really that crazy.

I know I won’t be re-reading this book and I don’t plan to get the rest of the series from the library. I just don’t think I could do that to myself.
