Synopsis

Gwen has a destiny to fulfill, but no one will tell her what it is. She’s only recently learned that she is the Ruby, the final member of the time-traveling Circle of Twelve, and since then nothing has been going right. She suspects the founder of the Circle, Count Saint-German, is up to something nefarious, but nobody will believe her. And she’s just learned that her charming time-traveling partner, Gideon, has probably been using her all along. Emerald Green is the stunning conclusion to Kerstin Gier’s Ruby Red Trilogy, picking up where Sapphire Blue left off, reaching new heights of intrigue and romance as Gwen finally uncovers the secrets of the time-traveling society and learns her fate.

My Review

This is the third and final book in the Ruby Red series by Kerstin Gier. I liked this book better than the previous, Sapphire Blue, as it seemed like we finally got some answers.

The books start with Gwen confused and upset over what Gideon did in Sapphire Blue. As readers, we are a little confused as well and can’t quite figure out exactly why Gideon did what he did. It takes a while but eventually it all comes together.

This novel really is more about how to stop the big, bad Count Saint-Germain. Everything takes place in the space of a few days while Gwen, Lesley and Xemerius try to figure out what to do. There is also quite a bit of the beginning of the book devoted to the discussion of whether Gwen should trust Gideon at all.

This book moves so fast, but we are able to get to know more about different characters such as Lucas Montrose, Lady Arista’s dead husband and Gwen’s grandfather. We are also, finally, able to hear Paul and Lucy’s side of the story. I have to admit that I had pretty much guessed this part by the time we were told.

This was a great ending to the series with just a few small things. Here I’ll just briefly say that I wanted more in the ending. There is quite a bit implied, but we don’t know for sure. I don’t want to spoil anything by saying specifics, but I really did want more.

While I picked up this series mainly because of the gorgeous covers, I found that I actually enjoyed the series. I am often skeptical about time travel novels, but this one was well done. Now I just want more!
