Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And—most importantly of all—she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
But nothing comes without a price.
Someone is murdering Shadowhunters, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second, bloody war. Clary’s best friend, Simon, can’t help her—his mother just found out that he’s a vampire, and now he’s homeless. When Jace begins to pull away from her without explaining why, Clary is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: she herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
The stakes are higher than ever in the #1 New York Times bestselling fourth installment of the Mortal Instruments series.

My Review

I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to pick up City of Fallen Angels after I finished City of Glass. However, my curiosity got the better of me and I did check out City of Fallen Angels from the library. I’m glad I did.

City of Fallen Angels begins a few months after the events in City of Glass. Simon, Clary, Jace, and Isabelle are back in New York. Clary’s mother is going to be marrying Luke. Jocelyn isn’t too keen on Clary’s relationship with Jace. This is probably mainly because Jace was raised by Valentine.

This novel is quite a bit slower than the previous books in the series. The main plot seemed to be Jace trying to figure himself out. That did leave parts of the novel to be really slow.

I loved that Clary was coming into her own as a Shadowhunter. She isn;t denying her heritage and wants to be able to defend herself. She isn’t afraid to work hard. She could easily have rejected the Shadowhunter world but she didn’t.

Simon is still geeky, adorable Simon. He is having to adjust to life as a vampire while keeping it a secret from his mother. That’s more than enough to make someone go crazy. Then, on top of that, he has to decide if he is dating Isabelle or Maia. Poor Simon has quite a conundrum.

Overall, I enjoyed, City of Fallen Angels. It was interesting to see how all of the subplots came together with the main plot. Then there was that terrible ending. I hate cliff-hangers! That really makes me want to pick up City of Lost Souls, but I’m not entirely sure I am going to pick it up. I am getting bored with Clary and the rest of the characters.

Should I continue the series if I’m getting bored of the characters?
