{TTT} Things I Do Besides Read

Posted January 26, 2016 in Faith, Life / 6 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s list isΒ a freebie so I have decided to share with you the Top Ten Things I Do Besides Read. I hope that I can get to ten or else my life isn’t all that exciting.

1. Blog

I obviously blog or you wouldn’t be reading this right now. I would say that this takes up a fair share of my time.

2. Work

As I have mentioned before, I am a teacher. I teach in my school’s fifth and sixth grade special education and resource room. I love what I do but it is a lot of work. Some days are better than others and no day is ever like the day before. Everyday is definitely a new surprise… and sometimes I would rather the “surprise” went away.

3. Prayer

The first thing I do in the morning is pray Morning Prayer and prayer is one of the last things I do before bed at night. Prayer is a rather important part of my daily life. I think you could probably, maybe tell this from looking at my blog. The url is CATHOLICamanda. The title (Orandi et Legendi) is Latin. The tagline is “just a girl praying and reading.” Yep, prayer is pretty important to me.

{TTT} 2016 Resolutions

Posted January 5, 2016 in Faith, Life, Reading / 10 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s list is the Top Ten 2016 Resolutions. About half of these are bookish/bloggy, I’ll list them first. The rest are more personal.

1. Write More Discussion Posts

I seriously want to work on posting more than just reviews and memes. If you take a look at my archives, that is basically all that I post. I want to change that in 2016.

2. Read More Classics

I have a multitude of classics sitting on bookshelf. Seriously, they take up over a whole shelf. I really need to get to them. Quite a few will be rereads but I don’t care. It have been so long since I read the classics.

3. Read Books I Have Purchased

With the Christmas money from my grandmother, I purchased a four month gift subscription to Uppercase Box. Other than those books, I won’t be buying any more books until after my birthday in April. I really need to read the books that are on my shelf and have been sitting there for some time. Putting myself under a book buying ban may not sound like the nicest way to start the new year, but it is happening.

2015 in Review (& End of Year and Statistics Surveys)

Posted December 31, 2015 in Life, Reading / 10 Comments

Big Things That Happened in 2015

  • I mentioned the school talent show in which the teachers sang Yellow Submarine.
  • I worked at a Catholic summer camp for the summer and had a blast. I wrote about it and shared some pictures.
  • I survived over a week of blinding smoke due to forest fires. It was insane. I talked about that here.
  • I had my very first ever Blogversary which was exciting.

Analysis of Books I Read in 2015

This was the very first year that I ever kept track of the books that I read. My stats have amazed me.

  • I read 141 books.
  • Almost all of the books I read this year were 4 or 5 stars. I must be pretty good at choosing books I know I’ll enjoy.
  • Over two-thirds of the books I read this year were from the library or books I own.
  • Over half of the books I read this year were hard copied (Paperback or Hardcover) while over a quarter were ebooks. Audiobooks made up the rest.
  • About a quarter of the books I read this year were debuts.

I made some pretty nifty looking pie charts in Excel (you can just pretend they are totally awesome).

December 2015 in Review

Posted December 30, 2015 in Faith, Life, Reading / 4 Comments

It has been a crazy month and so I don’t have a whole lot for you other than the books I read and reviewed this month. My 2015 in Review post will be coming up tomorrow and this is a lot more interesting than this one. This post is, I know, rather pathetic but here it is anyway.

Things that Happened inΒ December

  • Christmas!
  • I am (still) kitty-sitting for my sister’s two kitties while she and the rest of my family are visiting family in another state.
  • Somehow I managed to read only 5-star books this month; I’m not sure how that happened.

{TTT} Thanksgiving Edition

Posted November 24, 2015 in Faith, Life, Reading / 16 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s list has a Thanksgiving theme. That leaves things rather open-ended and so I have decided to go with the things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving. I know that it isn’t bookish but that’s okay with me. Also, there are only 9 but that’s just the way it is going to be.

1. My Family

I love my family to pieces. My sister is going to be coming home tomorrow and will stay through Thanksgiving weekend. It is going to be great. I am praying though that the roads won’t be too bad. It doesn’t look so good now… πŸ™

2. My Faith

My faith is super important to me. You might have noticed that from my blog url. I’m not ashamed of my faith nor am I going to hide it. Sure, I don’t always post about it. Actually, I have realized that I don’t post about my faith much at all. Maybe I should get a few more Catholic-y posts in the making. πŸ™‚
