Synopsis
Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.
Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.
Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.
Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

My Review
I avoided reading this book at first. I was worried that it would be a let down after These Broken Stars. Well, I didn’t like This Shattered World as much as I loved These Broken Stars though it is very hard to be as awesome as These Broken Stars.
Jubilee Chase is a soldier on Avon. Most soldiers only last a few months on Avon before the Fury takes over and they are reassigned. Captain Chase has been on Avon for about two years. No one knows how, but she is immune to the Fury.
Flynn Cormac has spent his entire life on Avon. The marshy swamps and perpetually cloudy skies are all he has ever known. His older sister, Orla, led a rebellion against the soldiers ten years ago. The rebellion failed and Orla, Flynn’s last family member, was executed when he was only ten.
Now Flynn, despite his rebel leader sister, thinks peace might be possible. He doesn’t want the rebels, the Fianna, to have to die just to keep fighting a war they cannot hope to win. He is a pacifist which angers some of his fellow rebels. He wants the fighting to stop.
Then Flynn kidnaps Jubilee from the relative safety of the military base and takes her into the swamps. He thinks they might be able to work together to avoid all out war. He only has to convince the by-the-book Captain Chase that it might work. What they don’t know yet is that there are secrets on Avon that put everyone in danger.
This Shattered World is set about a year after the events of These Broken Stars. Tarver and Lilac make some small appearances and help tie This Shattered World to These Broken Stars. I loved seeing how the two books fit together and I cannot wait to read Their Fractured Light.
SO, SO, SO good, right? This is one of my favorite series of all time, so I am so glad you liked this as much as I did! I liked These Broken Stars just a teensy bit more, but this was such an amazing sequel. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous review! <3
I know. I can’t believe I put this book off so long. I agree, this was an amazing sequel!
Thanks so much for visiting and calling my review fabulous. 🙂 I hope you have a fantastic rest of the weekend!
