Top Ten Tuesday: Mountain Reads

Posted May 26, 2015 in Reading / 10 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s list is the Top Ten Books I’ll Have in My Beach Bag/Would be Great Beach Reads. Well, I live in Montana. That means no where near a beach, of any sort. Instead we have mountains. I love our mountains. Here are some books that prominently feature mountains. In other words, here are my mountain reads.

Vampire AcademyThe RopemakerCold Fire
The Fellowship of the RingSnow-WalkerThe Singer of All SongsThe Winner's Curse

1. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

This was the first book that came to mind. It is based in Montana, a couple of hours from Missoula to be exact. So, yeah, I would say it features mountains.

2. The Ropemaker by Peter Dickinson

The mountains are half of the boundary that protects the Valley from outsiders. They are pretty important to the story because they have kept the Valley safe and secluded for generations.

3. Cold Fire by Tamora Pierce

There aren’t exactly mountains specifically in this book but it is set in the northern country of Namorn where winter consists of everything being frozen solid under feet of snow. That sounds pretty mountain-y to me.

4. The Fellowship of the Ring by J R R Tolkien

There are the Misty Mountains mentioned quite a bit here. Plus, it is Tolkien so he could be on any list ever.

5. Snow-Walker by Catherine Fisher

The mountains of the north are where this book is set. Jessa, Thorkil, and Kari have some… adventures. It has been quite a while since I read this book.

6. The Singer of All Songs by Kate Constable

The mountains are where Calwyn grew up. They protected Antaris for a very long time. This is where the whole story begins and the place Calwyn met Darrow.

7. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

If it hadn’t been for the mountains separating the Herran Peninsula from the rest of the continent, the Herrrani would never have become the people they did, the whole story would have been different. The mountains are kind of important to the story.

These are my Ten Seven Mountain Reads. I just couldn’t think of any more though I know there are a bunch. I will probably think of more the moment I hit post. Feel free to share yours as well and check out the rest of them at The Broke and the Bookish.
